Policy

Principal activity and health promotion

Keeping disease prevention and control as our principal activity.

Draft for board adoption. This policy will be reviewed and adopted by the board at its first meeting, then reviewed every year. Questions? Use our contact form.

Why this matters

As a health promotion charity, our principal activity must be to promote the prevention or control of diseases in human beings. If another activity becomes our main activity, we may lose our registration type and our tax deductible status.

The diseases we target

Genitourinary syndrome of menopause, urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and sexual pain and dysfunction associated with menopause, and other diseases and conditions of perimenopause and menopause that would worsen if untreated.

What we do

  • Public education on recognising these diseases and when to seek care.
  • Funded education places that include screening for when to see a doctor.
  • Training health professionals to recognise and manage these diseases.
  • Advocacy for earlier diagnosis and treatment.

What we avoid

General wellbeing, lifestyle or recreational activities that are not linked to preventing or controlling a named disease. Any such activity must stay minor.

Monitoring

Each year the board reviews how staff time and spending divide between activities, and records that disease prevention and control remains the principal activity. Any proposed new programme is checked against this policy before approval.
